Yesterday, on the 3oth August, 2010, 6w was split into groups of 3 working maths with toilet rolls. The group I was in was with Jack, Dele and I. We were calculating the weight of toilet rolls then see how many toilet rolls weigh our weights.
At first we used a weight to see how heavy a toilet roll was, the weight of the toilet roll was 120g. We then used a scale to see how heavy all of us were one by one. We got a calculator and divided the weight of us with the weight of the toilet roll.
Dele was 41000g, 341.66 toilet rolls equal Dele.
Jack was 64000g, 533.33 toilet rolls equal Jack.
William was 71000g, 591.66 toilet rolls equal William.

This is my Earth Structure Model. First my class blew up a balloon and covered it with newspaper to paper mache it. The paper mache glue felt funny at first but I got used to it. Our class hung our paper mache balloons up on some string to let them dry overnight. The next day we covered the newspaper mache with white tissue paper to make it easier to paint over. The class then hung them back up to dry on the string. The next day 6W went to the Art Room to pop the balloon inside and to cut a quarter of the globe out to show the centre. It was a lot of fun but I had to start the centre piece 2 times. The next step was to paint the rest of the globe. The class painted the ocean dark blue and the land a mixture of dark and light green. Some people even paint the North and South Pole white. Next was to colour in the inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. Now that our class were nearly finished we needed to make labels and make them pop out with matchsticks our just stick them on with glue. I chose to make them pop out with matchsticks. I am very glad that we were given the opportunity to make this model. I think I learnt a lot more because it was a lot more interesting and fun.

This is my paper mache model of the Earth”s Stucture. It shows the two core the mantle and the crust. The first layer is the inner core it is solid iron and nickel because the pressure is so great it never melts.
The outer core is molten metals because it is so hot. The third layer is the mantle which is molten rock. This is also the area where the lava comes out of.
The last layer is the Crust . It is like a shell that keeps the stucture together. It is also the crust where we live.the crust is mostly covered by water.

On Thursday 24th of June, Tommy Hafey, an inspirational speaker, visited our school. He was the coach of Richmond, Collingwood, Sydney and Geelong. He also played for the Richmond.
Tommy Hafey told us about how important our parents are to us and that we should be grateful for what they do for us. He told us a saying,
‘If it is to be
It is up to me.’
Tommy Hafey explained to us how important your decisions are in your life. He told us the impact on you and your family that happens if you maker bad decisions. Tommy told us about a boy who poured petrol over an old man in a wheel-chair just because he didn’t want to seem like a woose to his friends. The boy ended up in jail and that was where Tommy visited him. Tommy was very disappointed in what that boy had done.
Tommy Hafey really made us make sure that we make the right decisions.
He explained to all of us about self- discipline and goal setting. he said that it is important that we have goals in our life.
I know that I learnt a lot from the visit and I hope that everyone else learnt from it too.

Every Wednesday I go with a couple of people to a Maths Extension class taught by Mr. Robert Barr. We have been working with squares in the last couple of weeks, and I worked out a way to work out how to do 21 to the power of 3.
First I wrote down what the equation for 21 to the power of 3 is (21 x 21 x 21). I then broke that up. I drew a grid to work out the first part (21 x 21). Using this grid, I worked out that 21 x 21 equals 441 (see picture above). Working it out this way changed the equation to 441 x 21.
Working it out this way changed the equation to 441 x 21. To work this out I drew another little grid. I then worked out that 441 x 21 equals 9261. So the answer to 21 to the power of 3 equals 9261. This way will work with any number, all you have to do is break it into parts.
